On Friday 6 December 2019 12:00-13:30 (GMT) the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance invites you to attend a webinar on Climate Finance.
This webinar will unpack what climate finance is and help you better understand the nexus of resilience to climate change and finance. It includes a deep dive into the Loss & Damage policy space and the surrounding discourse, followed by a discussion on unlocking innovative and alternative sources of finance for climate adaptation, risk reduction and resilience, such as insurance schemes, forecast-based financing, faith-based funding, remittances and risk pooling.

Teresa is a researcher with the Risk and Resilience Program at IIASA, where she works on innovative disaster risk financing, the development-disaster-climate change nexus and on transformational approaches for addressing disaster risks beyond adaptation. - Aparna Shrivastava, Mercy Corps
Aparna oversees a wide range of efforts including climate finance research, development and engagement with high-level actors as Mercy Corps’ Climate Finance Lead. With a strong technical foundation in engineering, Aparna has worked in international development and humanitarian work for 7+ years across East Africa and India. - Kara Siahaan, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
Kara is the Coordinator for Early Action and Disaster Risk Financing at the International Federation of the Red Cross and co-led the design and development of the Forecast-based Action by the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. - Reinhard Mechler, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA)
Reinhard is Deputy Program Director of the Risk and Resilience Program at IIASA. He brings over 20 years of experience analysing and addressing socio-economic aspects of disaster and climate change risks and a track record in analysing and contributing to the discourse on Loss and Damage, including with the recent book “Loss and Damage from Climate Change” on which he collaborated with Swenja Surminski, among others. - Swenja Surminski, London School of Economics (LSE)
Swenja is Head of Adaptation Research at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, part of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), overseeing social science research projects on climate adaptation, disaster risk finance and Loss and Damage, including the recent book “Loss and Damage from Climate Change” on which she collaborated with Reinhard Mechler, among others.
