CBA aims to unite a community of adaptation practitioners and create a space for learning and sharing experiences, with a focus on acquiring new skills. CBA17 will be the first in-person CBA event since 2019 and these four days will offer participants the opportunity to discuss, debate and share skills and knowledge on locally led adaptation with peers.
Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance Participation at CBA17
Alliance colleagues from Practical Action, ISET and Mercy Corps will be in attendance and participating in the following sessions:
How Nature Based Solutions contribute to sustainable and inclusive urban communities
Urban areas are already home to 50% of the global population and current predictions are that by 2050, 70% of the global population will be urban dwellers. This accelerating urban growth is overwhelming urban planning systems resulting in highly stressed infrastructure where essential services are failing. What role can nature-based solutions offer to create a more sustainable urban future? How can urban communities integrate nature based approaches into their development plans and what are the challenges and complexities in achieving this, and how can we ensure this is locally led?
The natural capacity of individuals and communities to learn and adapt to respond to climate hazards
This session will introduce the Flood Resilience Measurement for Communities (FRMC) framework and tool which is a participatory tool to measure the resilience position of a community and support to develop a plan to overcome the gaps. It will also highlight the use of the Post Event Review of Capacity (PERC) a post event tool to assess what went right and what went wrong after a disaster unfolds.
