World Water Week

Stockholm International Water Institute have organised World Water Week every year since 1991 and this year it is being held at Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre. As a member of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance, Practical Action will be hosting a session where colleagues from Senegal and Bangladesh will be sharing examples of their flood resilience work and the role that WASH services can play in building community resilience, supporting disaster preparedness and adapting to climate change.

Session: Joining up disaster preparedness and climate resilient WASH services

Date: 23rd August, 09:00-10:30 CEST

Venue: C2, Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre, Stockholm – also online

The Senegal team will be talking about the priorities coming out of the Flood Resilience Measurement for Communities (FRMC), why waste management plays such an important role in reducing the impact of flooding, and why considerations about protecting basic services are going to be important for action on Nature-Based Solutions and planning.

The Bangladesh team will be talking about the interventions under the programme so far, and our future vision for working in urban as well as rural areas, and boosting the work we do on resilient WASH services.

The session will be followed by a panel discussion featuring a number of organisations working on urban resilience and water resilient cities including Z Zurich Foundation, World Resources Institute, Global Resilience Partnership and ICLEI Africa. The discussion will include how to strengthen the relationship between the DRR and WASH sectors.
