Therefore Early Warning Systems, improved disaster management coordination between communities and local and national governments, creation of emergency plans and implementation of alternative livelihoods are part of the interventions. In the Rimac basin in Peru, communities are improving their preparedness for the El Niño season by identifying evacuation routes and emergency plans, capacity building of brigades and supporting communities to engage with local governments on DRR planning.

Since 2014 the Mexican Red Cross MRC has worked to strengthen community resilience together with the IFRC as part of the Zurich Flood Resilience Alliance. The Flood Resilience Program in Mexico PRAIM, for its initials in Spanish has focused on building capacities and reducing vulnerabilities in more than 20 flood-affected communities in the state of Tabasco.
